Ayyappanum Koshiyum

We watched the movie Ayyapanum Koshiyum yesterday. Though the movie is about 3 hours long, it is convincingly engaging the audience. We indeed never did any "pause" in between when watching it in Prime Video.

People around Koshi are creating new problems and pulling him back whenever Koshi realizes his mistakes and tries to move forward. One open dialogue between A&K itself would have stopped the story to end before "interval". The entire storyline is how ego generates never-ending complications in people’s lives.

I am not going to talk about the movie, but about a scene in the movie.

The lady constable Jessie is crying at the police station after watching the breaking news on TV. At that time, when Ayyappan Nair says "You are in uniform, stand upright", she replies "After wearing this uniform only, I started to stand upright Sir ". It just reminded me of something.

We went to Kannur as a group tour during the last Christmas holidays. One of the places we visited was "Aralam" which is a wildlife sanctuary. In the checkpoint, I was able to talk to the lady guard who wrote the receipt for our Jeep ride for the group. Though she was struggling to write in Malayalam itself (No English / Hindi, they understand Tamil), she was sincere, passionate, and proud of doing her job. She was at least in her late thirties and unusually short for a forest guard.
By looking at the shape of her nose and height, I guessed she is a local tribe (Forest Dwelling Tribe). I asked her and confirmed that she is a government servant. She delightfully told me that she got this job 5 years ago.

I could then remember the Kerala government had recruited hundreds of tribes for Forest watcher kind of posts. Their sound knowledge about the forest and wild animals is undoubtedly more valuable than an IFS officer's familiarity. One of the reasons among many benefits of recruiting them was to improve the living standards of tribal people.  This drive has been a successful one and other states are also following the same.

Many of us are working in corporate companies and at any time we will switch our jobs or are ready to lose jobs as well. But for the people like Jessie, their job is not only their lives but also a huge leap for this generation and generations to come as well, isn’t it?
